Human Trafficking: Protecting Humanity Across the Seas, Skies, and Lands

Learning Objectives:

• You will learn how to identify and be more aware of Human Trafficking, which is a modern-day slavery and may involve the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial act. It affects millions of men, women and children throughout the world and can happen in any community. You will hear from a human trafficking survivor and how she has transformed her life to become a leading consultant, activist and advocate to disrupt human trafficking.
• You will learn how the airline industry is training their team members to recognize potential human trafficking and how to report it, as well as the risks they face in such efforts and the difficulties and risks in the reporting process.
• You will hear an in depth discussion from a Canadian Superior Court of Justice regarding the law on human trafficking and the types of cases that are being brought before the court. A civil and criminal case will be presented to illustrate the specific evidence that is required for a civil finding of liability and a criminal conviction. You will learn that evidence of exploitation, meaning taking advantage of someone, on its own is not enough. Another factor must be satisfied.
