Neftalí Garro is a founding member of the Central American law firm BLP and partner since 2005. He heads the Insurance & Reinsurance Practice and has experience in Corporate & Business Law, M&A, and Corporate Governance issues. He was an associate at KPMG in Costa Rica and a foreign associate with the international law firm White & Case. He served as a legal consultant on insurance matters for the United Nations’ World Food Programme (WFP) in Rome, Italy.
He is a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC) since 2018, active in both the Insurance & Reinsurance Committee and the International Committee. He chairs the Legal Affairs Committee of the Costa Rican Association of Private Insurers (AAP) and presides the Costa Rican Chapter of the Association Internationale de Droit des Assurance (AIDA). Mr. Garro represents clients in all segments of the insurance industry (insurers, reinsurers, intermediaries and providers of services auxiliary to insurance) in regulatory, corporate and litigation matters.
Mr. Garro is a former President of the Board of INSURALEX, a global insurance law firm network ranked in Band 1 by Chambers & Partners. He teaches Insurance Law and Insurance Distribution courses at the University of Costa Rica, where he has also taught Civil Law and Private Contracts Law. Mr. Garro obtained his law degree at the University of Costa Rica and holds an LL.M. (Insurance Law) from the University of Connecticut School of Law (2000). He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), London.
